KS2 ANIMATION VOCABULARY​

Basic Vocabulary

Animation – Making pictures look like they are moving by showing them quickly, one after the other.
Flip Book – A small book with drawings that look like they move when you flip the pages quickly.
Frame – A single picture in a series that, when put together, makes an animation.
Drawing – Creating pictures by hand or on a computer, often used to start an animation.
Onion Skin – A tool in animation that lets you see the previous and next frames lightly on the screen while you draw. This helps you make sure your pictures line up and move smoothly.
Sequence – A group of frames or pictures shown in order to tell a story or show an action.
Looping – Making an animation repeat over and over without stopping.
Animate – Bringing still pictures to life by making them move.
Play – Watching your animation to see how it looks.Delete – Removing a frame or part of your animation that you don’t need.
Digital Tool – A program or app on a computer or tablet used to make animations.
Save – Keeping your animation so you can come back and work on it later.

Intermediate Vocabulary 
GIF – A short animation or picture that plays in a loop, often used on the internet.
2D Animation – A type of animation that looks flat, like a cartoon on paper or a screen.
Key Frame – The most important pictures in an animation that show the beginning and end of a movement.
Layer – Different parts of an animation, like the background, characters, or objects, that you can change one at a time.
Pixel Art – Pictures made up of tiny squares (pixels), often used to make animations that look like old video games.
Upload – Sending your animation or picture from your computer to the internet or another device.
Frame-by-Frame Animation – A way of making animations by drawing each picture separately, one after the other.
Storyboard – A plan for your animation that shows what will happen and what it will look like, step by step.
Timing – Deciding how long each picture or movement will last in your animation.

Advanced Vocabulary 

Tweening – A shortcut for making smooth movements by letting the computer create the frames between two key pictures.
Exporting – Turning your animation into a finished file, like a video or a GIF, so others can see it.
Storyboard Refinement – Improving your storyboard to make your animation easier to create and more exciting to watch.
3D Animation – A type of animation where things look like they have depth and can move in all directions, like in movies or video games.
Editing – Changing or fixing parts of your animation to make it better.
Export – Saving your animation in a way that lets other people watch it, like as a video or GIF.
Audio Sync – Matching sounds or voices to the movements in your animation.
Animation Software – Special programs used to make animations.
Customisation – Adding your own style or changing things like colors, backgrounds, or characters in your animation.
