KS2 DIGITAL ART & IMAGES VOCABULARY​
Basic Vocabulary
* Colour – The characteristic of visual perception described through colour names.
* Grid – A framework of horizontal and vertical lines to create squares.
* Pixel - a tiny square or dot that makes up a digital image. The term "pixel" is short for "picture element".Zoom – Making an image look closer or farther away.
* Shape – The external form or appearance of an object.
* Pattern – A repeated decorative design.
* Texture – The surface quality or feel of an object.
* Digital Tool – Software or applications used for creating digital art.
* Composition – The arrangement of visual elements in a work of art.
* Artistic Expression – The way an artist conveys their thoughts and feelings through art.
* Photo – A picture created using a camera.
* Save – Storing your work on a computer or device.
* Edit – Changing or improving an image or piece of art.
Intermediate Vocabulary
* Symmetry – A balanced and proportionate arrangement of parts.
* Reflection – The process of looking back at one’s work to analyse it.
* Geometric Shapes – Shapes defined by mathematical principles (e.g., squares, circles).
* Mosaic – A pattern or picture made from small pieces of coloured stone, glass, or other materials.
* Colour Theory – The study of how colours interact and the relationships between them.
* Digital Techniques – Methods used to create or manipulate digital art.
* Art Medium – The materials used to create a work of art (e.g., digital, paint).
* Cross-Curricular – Integrating knowledge from different subjects (e.g., art and history).
* Pointillism – A painting technique using small dots of colour.
* Impressionism – An art movement focused on capturing light and natural forms.
* Pattern - something that repeats in a logical way, such as a series of shapes, colors, or sounds
* Pattern Design – The creation of decorative patterns for artistic purposes.
* Creative Process – The sequence of steps taken to create art.
* Load – Opening or accessing a saved file.
* Resize – Changing the size of an image or part of it.
* Toolbox – A set of tools in software to create or edit images.
Advanced Vocabulary
* Comparative Analysis – Evaluating similarities and differences between artworks.
* Artistic Style – A distinctive manner of expression in art.
* Visual Narrative – Telling a story through visual means.
* Art Critique – Evaluating and analysing art, providing feedback.
* Animation – The process of creating moving images from static ones.
* GIF – A format for image files that supports both animated and static images.
* Comic Strip – A sequence of drawings arranged in panels to convey a story or message.
* Storytelling – The art of conveying a narrative through visual means.
* Artistic Intent – The purpose or goal behind a piece of artwork.
* Reflective Practice – The process of critically analysing one’s own work to improve.
* Artistic Identity – An individual’s unique style and approach to art.
* Complexity – The level of detail and intricacy in a work of art.
* Layer – A single level in a digital image or design that can be edited separately.
* Export – Saving your work in a specific format to share or use elsewhere.
