KS2 COMPUTER SYSTEMS    VOCABULARY​

Basic Vocabulary

Computer – A machine that helps you do things like play games, draw, or find information.
Hardware – The parts of the computer that you can touch, like the screen, keyboard, and mouse.
Input device – A tool, like a keyboard or mouse, that you use to give information to the computer.
Output device – A tool, like a monitor or speaker, that shows or plays information from the computer.
Monitor – The screen that shows you what you’re doing on the computer.
Keyboard – The part of the computer you press to type words or numbers.
Mouse – A device that you use to point and click on things on the screen.
Digital technology – Devices that use computers, like phones, tablets, or even traffic lights.

Intermediate Vocabulary 

CPU (Central Processing Unit) – The brain of the computer that helps it work and do what you ask it to do.
Software – Programs or apps that make the computer do different things, like games or writing apps.
Search engine – A tool, like Google, that helps you find things on the internet by typing in words.
RAM (Random Access Memory) – Memory in the computer that helps it run things quickly, like a short-term memory.
Hard drive – The part of the computer that stores all your information, like pictures, files, and games.

Advanced Vocabulary 

Digital technology – Technology that uses computers to work, like smartphones, tablets, and devices that control things like lights or traffic.
Output device – Devices that show or play the results from the computer, like the monitor, speakers, or printer.
Hardware – The physical parts of a computer system, including both the parts you see and the parts inside the computer, like the CPU and hard drive.
Software – Programs or applications that tell the computer what to do, such as games, web browsers, or word processors.
World Wide Web (WWW) – The collection of websites and pages you can visit using the internet.
