Finding Images

FINDING.jpg

- Paint an image of fireworks.

Explain to students that some celebrations have something called fireworks. A firework is essentially a missile designed to explode in a very controlled way with bangs and bursts of brightly coloured light. The word "firework" comes from the Greek word pyrotechnics, which means, very appropriately, "fire art" or "fire skill"; there's certainly no shortage of art and skill in modern firework displays!

Show students part of this video of the fireworks in London, which were used

to celebrate the new year of 2018.

In this lesson, children will be creating their own firework display using a paint

program in Purple Mash. Firstly demonstrate for them how to access and log

into Purple Mash. Then Toools--> Paint Projects --> Fireworks.

Model first how to use the application, selecting different pen colours and pen

thickness.

Students go ahead to create their

firework display. Once finished they

should type their name at the bottom

of their work and save.

Print some selected examples of

student´s displays and encourage them

to share their work with the rest of the

class.

- Create a grettings card.

Ask children what they normally receive for their birthday or Christmas.  In this lesson, students will be designing their own greeting card.

Remind children how to access and log into Purple Mash. Then demonstrate how to access the greeting card template.

Tools--> 2Publish Plus --> Blank Greeting Card

Show children how to insert text by clicking on the "Write Message Here". Model how to change the text size, colour and font. Point out that it is also possible to create a border for the card by clicking inside the image of a magnifying glass and creating a design.

Students will create their perfect greetings card. They should complete each of the three sections of the card. When they are finished, show them how to send their work to the printer. We can do this activity during Christmas or Easter time.

- Create a slideshow presentation using 2Publish Plus..

Begin this lesson by brainstorming with the children all of the different types of celebrations that they can think of. As students contribute their ideas, write these down on the whiteboard.

During this activity children will be creating a slideshow of images for each type of celebration using the blank slide show template.

Tools--> 2Publish Plus --> Blank slide show

Model for the students how to insert clip art,

speech bubbles and text.

Explain that if the clip art that the students want

is not available, they should use the drawing tools

within the program to create their own designs.

Students should create at least two slides

(clicking the "Add Page" icon each time they want

to add a new page).

- Create a poster about firework safety. (see Paint a image of fireworks activity above)

Remind the children about how many events are celebrated with fireworks. Ask: are they dangers with fireworks?. Elicit that although fireworks produce impressive displays, it is important that we know how to be safe around fireworks..

                     Show students this video about

                     firework safety:

Explain to students that in this lesson we will be creating a poster about firework safety. Model how to access the Firework Safety Poster template, this time by typing "fireworks" into the search bar. Click on the Fireworks Safety Poster template. Model how to drag in pictures and resize on the template. Then ask students to contribute their ideas for how we can keep safe around fireworks, which can be typed onto the template.

Student will complete the Firework Safety Poster Template, adding images and text. The poster should include at least two rules for how to keep safe with fireworks and then saved.

Print out the best posters for display. Invite students to show their displays to the rest of the class and share wat they have learnt.

1.- Type "fireworks"
2.- Click "Fireworks
safety Poster"

Aims

- Use software to allow children to combine text and graphics to create stories, newspapers, captions, leaflets, posters and more.
- Use applications and devices in order to communicate ideas, work, messages and demonstrate control.
